The Freiburger Münster

Freiburg im Breisgau

Freiburg was my home for ten months during my junior year of college. My wife and I were married on August 23rd, 1997 and we left for Germany on September 4th. We stayed in Heidelberg for about a month for a German language course and then moved to this city which we will always think of as our home in Germany. I love its quiet streets on a Sunday morning. I love the colorful and noisy market that fills the Münsterplatz to overflowing every day but Sunday. My wife and I studied at the Albert-Ludwigs Universität for two semesters. We rode the bus and the trolley cars but mostly we rode our bikes in all kinds of weather. We had the best five roomates that newlyweds could ask for in our Wohngemeinschaft. Best of all, we ate crusty German bread fresh from the bakery. I miss Germany and I miss Freiburg but I really miss that bread!

Here are some pages I created to recapture some of my experiences. I know that my nostalgia makes me think they're better than they are but I hope you enjoy them as well.

View the Site Map in case the menu is missing from the top of this page.

Visit my Virtual Scrapbook where you'll see pictures I've pilfered from sites all over the internet and read paragraphs about what they remind me of.

Wondering what time it is in Freiburg? See a live picture of the clock on the famous Münster tower.

Here's a few odd links to sites about reading and learning German.

This is the official homepage of the city of Freiburg. Here you can find information about the history of the town as well as maps, restaurants, hotels, test about the sites and trash pick-up times. I don't think there's a version in English but you never know...

This is basically the center for information for tourists who want to visit Freiburg. This may have an English version but I'm not sure.

This site contains just about everything you would want to know about Freiburg, Germany or just about anything else. English and German versions are available.

The newspaper based in Freiburg. It has the local weather and news as well as stories of national interest.

This virtual walking tour of Freiburg is too amazing to miss. These pages are in English and are far better at giving you an idea of what it's like to be in Freiburg than I have in my own pages. It's provided by those wonderful people at Freiburg-Online.
